In today's dynamic and fast-changing world, students are increasingly required to navigate complex issues, evaluate information from diverse sources, and collaborate effectively to address real-world challenges. At Tampines Meridian Junior College, Project Work (PW) provides students with an authentic and meaningful learning experience that develops these essential competencies. Through investigating real-world issues and designing purposeful solutions, students learn to synthesise knowledge across disciplines, think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, and collaborate with others – skills that prepare them to thrive in higher education, the workplace and beyond.
A distinctive feature of TMJC's PW curriculum is the adoption of Design Thinking as its guiding methodology. Grounded in a human-centred approach, students learn to empathise with users, uncover authentic needs, reframe complex problems and develop innovative, impactful solutions. Through structured learning experiences, including critical role-play and facilitated discussions, students gain practical experience in applying Design Thinking to tackle contemporary issues with empathy, creativity and purpose. To build the collaborative skills this requires, students also undergo a Group Dynamics module, a series of structured lessons equipping them with the interpersonal and teamwork competencies essential for success.
Within the college, students enrich their PW journey through a diverse range of workshops, leadership programmes, and interdisciplinary learning journeys. Beyond the College, students are also encouraged to present their work at the National Project Work Festival, where they exchange ideas with peers from other institutions, broaden their perspectives, and gain valuable insights into diverse approaches to problem-solving. These opportunities empower students to communicate their ideas confidently, refine their solutions through authentic engagement, and contribute meaningfully to conversations that extend beyond the classroom.
Together, these experiences create a vibrant, authentic learning environment that empowers every TMJC student to become an empathetic thinker, confident communicator and collaborative problem-solver, ready to make meaningful contributions in an ever-changing world.
