Chinese Orchestra
Join the Chinese Orchestra and perform at community events like Lunar New Year celebrations and the Singapore Youth Festival. With dedication, all members can master their instrument within two years.
At Tampines Meridian Chinese Orchestra, students come together to explore the rich heritage and beauty of Chinese orchestral music while growing as musicians and individuals. Under the guidance of our passionate and experienced Main Conductor, dedicated sectional instructors, and CCA Teachers-in-Charge, members receive specialised training through the Woodwind, Huqin (Erhu), Cello & Bass, Plucking (Pipa), and Percussion sections. Students of all musical backgrounds are welcome, and many begin with little or no prior experience before developing into accomplished musicians through regular rehearsals, sectional coaching, and meaningful performance experiences.
Beyond musical development, the Chinese Orchestra provides a platform for students to cultivate important values such as commitment, humility, respect, self-discipline, and care for one another. Members learn the importance of listening attentively, embracing constructive feedback, supporting their peers, and striving for continuous improvement as they work together towards a shared musical vision. These experiences help students develop character while fostering a deep appreciation for Chinese orchestral music and culture.
The Chinese Orchestra actively participates in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation and performs regularly at a variety of college and external events, including TMJC Open House, JC1 Orientation, SONRISA (the College Combined Performing Arts Concert), and the annual Pasir Ris West Lunar New Year Celebrations. Through these performances, members have the opportunity to represent the College, celebrate cultural traditions, engage the wider community, and share the timeless beauty of Chinese orchestral music with diverse audiences.
